This project was an installation focused on psychological ideologies about the subconscious and human existence. The main theoretical questions this project addressed is "what is the connection between the mind and body" and "how does this connection shape peoples’ ideas about identity". There are three main psychological theories explored in this work; including the Ship of Theseus, the existential void, and capitalist realism. The Ship of Theseus is a thought experiment that questions the identity of objects through exploring the point of transformation at which a changed object becomes a new object. This same thought experiment can also be applied to the connection between identity and the human body, as humans experience almost a complete replacement of all of their cells every seven years. The existential void is a psychological phenomenon that occurs when people are unable to find or create a meaning for their life, thereby losing their sense of identity and experiencing feelings of emptiness. Capitalist realism theorizes that this crisis occurs because of a lack of creativity in the modern age. The linkage between these ideas is vital for understanding and overcoming the mental health epidemic. The goal for this project was to create an immersive experience that encourages the audience to explore the idea of what makes people human and how our connection of mind and body work together to create our perception of ourselves, our importance, and our meaning within the limitations of our existence.
